Frequently Asked Questions About Agricultural Drone Services

Got questions about drone crop spraying, aerial seeding, or buying an agricultural drone? We have answered the most common questions we hear from farmers and applicators across Virginia and Kentucky.

Don't see your question here? Give us a call, we are always happy to talk through your specific situation.

APPLICATIONS & SERVICES

Q: What areas do you serve for drone applications?

A: Our Virginia division, based in Gordonsville, serves Central Virginia including Orange County, Charlottesville area, and the Shenandoah Valley. Our Kentucky division, based in Pleasureville, serves the Bluegrass region including Shelby County and the greater Louisville area. We also work with farmers in surrounding counties and neighboring states. Not sure if we can reach you? Give us a call at 413-884-5022 (VA) or 502-229-8200 (KY) and let's figure it out.

Q: What crops can you spray with drones?

A: We provide drone spraying services for row crops (corn, soybeans, wheat), pastures, and vineyards. Our precision agricultural drone applications work for herbicides, fungicides, insecticides, and fertilizers. We also offer aerial seeding services for cover crops and pasture renovation. Each crop and application type has different requirements, and our experienced team knows how to get it done right.

Q: How much does drone spraying cost?

A: Agricultural drone application costs vary based on acreage, terrain, chemical type, and location. We provide custom quotes for each job because every farm is different. The good news? Drone applications are often more cost-effective than traditional methods when you factor in speed, reduced crop damage, and the ability to spray in tight windows. Contact us for a quote specific to your operation.

Q: How fast can you complete my application?

A: Our drones can cover up to 100 acres per day depending on conditions, terrain, and application type. For time-sensitive applications during that critical 10-14 day spray window, speed matters—and that's where drone services really shine. We understand your window is closing, and we're ready to get it done fast. Call us to check current availability.

Q: What's the advantage of drone spraying vs. traditional ground equipment?

A: Drone crop spraying offers several advantages: no crop damage from tractor wheel traffic (which can cause 5-25% yield loss in row crops), ability to spray in wet or muddy conditions when ground equipment can't access fields, faster coverage during tight application windows, and precision targeting that reduces chemical waste. For pastures and vineyards with challenging terrain, drones can access areas that are difficult or impossible for traditional equipment.

Q: Can you spray in wind?

A: Wind speed and direction are critical factors we evaluate before every flight. Generally, we can safely apply with our agricultural drones in winds up to 15 mph depending on the product and conditions. We check multiple factors—not just wind speed—including temperature, humidity, and forecast changes. Every decision is about doing it right, not just getting it done. If conditions aren't safe for quality application, we'll tell you straight.

Q: Do you offer vineyard drone spraying in Virginia?

A: Yes! Vineyard drone applications are a specialty service we're expanding in the Virginia wine country. The precision requirements, terrain challenges, and high value of grape crops demand careful attention to detail—and that's exactly what we bring. Our experienced team understands that your vines deserve precision care. Contact Pete at 413-884-5022 to discuss your vineyard's specific needs.

Q: How do I book an application?

A: The easiest way is to call us directly: 413-884-5022 (Virginia) or 502-229-8200 (Kentucky). During peak spray season, our schedule fills fast, so we recommend booking as early as possible. We'll discuss your timing needs, acreage, crop type, and weather window to get you on the schedule.

DRONE SALES

Q: What agricultural drones do you sell?

A: We are authorized dealers for DJI Agras (T50, T40) and EAVision J100 agricultural spray drones. We also offer the DJI Mavic 3 Multispectral for crop imaging and field mapping. Why these brands? Because we fly them ourselves every single day. We know what works, what breaks, and what you'll actually need for your operation. We don't sell anything we wouldn't use ourselves.

Q: Why should I buy from Osprey instead of a larger dealer?

A: Simple: we fly what we sell. We're not just drone dealers—we're active agricultural drone applicators who use this equipment daily in real-world conditions. When you have a question at 6 AM during spray season, you're talking to someone who's been exactly where you are. Plus, you get Team Osprey—a community of operators providing constant support, shared knowledge, and real-world advice. That's not something you get from a catalog or website checkout.

Q: What does an agricultural drone package include?

A: Our agricultural drone packages are customized to your operation, but typically include the drone, batteries, charger, spraying system, remote controller, and essential accessories. We also include operator training and access to Team Osprey community support. We'll walk you through what you actually need—no overselling, no add-ons you won't use.

Q: When is the best time to buy an agricultural drone?

A: Many farmers and applicators purchase drones during the off-season (September-March) so they have time to complete training and get comfortable with the equipment before peak spray season. This also gives you time to work through your learning curve without the pressure of tight application windows. That said, we support new operators year-round—whenever you're ready, we're ready to help you get started.
